Fictional Story — Not Real News Around the World

Tokyo Vending Machine Begins Selling Smaller Vending Machines

A single vending machine has gone into business for itself, and its bestselling product is a tiny vending machine that sells even tinier ones.

TOKYO — A vending machine on an imaginary side street has stopped selling drinks and started selling smaller vending machines, each of which sells smaller vending machines of its own.

“It began quietly with one pocket-sized model,” said Hana Coinslot, spokesperson for the equally fictional Association of Machines That Sell Things. “By lunchtime the smallest one was selling vending machines too small to see. We are told they are very convenient.”

Physicists at the invented Bureau of Infinite Shopping estimate the chain now runs 31 machines deep, with the final one dispensing a single, atom-sized can of iced tea. Customers say the experience is delightful, though collecting change has become difficult.

At press time, the original machine had ordered a much larger vending machine, explaining that it wanted to understand where it came from.
